When I first started, I was overwhelmed and thought it was a little
disorientating. I attended the mature students’ induction programme and this
really helped me to settle in and find my way around. I have 3 young children
and my wife is also a mature student at another university so my time is very
limited. The facilities and support at Aston are amazing for mature students,
both socially and academically. There are many places you can go to for help
from the maths tutors in the Learning Development Centre to the Student
Advisers in The Hub. The Mature Students’ common room
is also a very nice facility and I have found having a locker
to be very useful. The great thing about Aston is that you
meet other mature students which makes you feel that
you’re not the only one but at the same time you treated
equally by staff. Some of the facilities at the university
allow for 24 hour access and this is invaluable for me,
I often come to study in the evenings or late into
the night.”
