Our Partnership with
Acorns Children’s Hospice
Our official charity partner is Acorns Children’s Hospice. Acorns
offers a network of specialist care and support to children and
young people who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses,
and their families. Acorns is currently supporting over 600
children and 865 families, including those who are bereaved.
We have a long history of working with Acorns, and in 2011
entered in to the first formal partnership agreement to run for the
length of the 2011/12 rugby season. This partnership agreement
is multifaceted and includes direct fundraising, gifts in kind,
player appearances and visits to the hospice, staff volunteering
and a dedicated Charity Match Day.
Gift in Kind (GIK) and Merchandise
The GIK and Merchandise donated to Acorns has both a market
value to the club but also a fundraising value to Acorns. The
leverage this GIK and merchandise gives is invaluable.
Data Capture and Audience Reach
In 2011/2012 Acorns added 48 new donors introduced directly
through the partnership.
In addition, access to Warriors Fanzine, Programme Adverts
and Web stories; has enabled Acorns to extend their reach to a
further 38,000 people.
Volunteering
Staff and players volunteer to help at the hospice and spend
time with the children. Acorns have over 2000 volunteers who
help on a regular basis and without volunteer support would not
be able to function effectively or without extreme cost. Therefore
these volunteering hours are key to maintaining Acorns services
and buildings and extremely valuable to any partnership.
In 2011/12 Warriors staff took part in 5 separate volunteering
days, resulting in over 20 members of staff being given the
opportunity to volunteer at the Hospice.
Direct Fundraising
The majority of direct fundraising came from the Charity Match
day in which over 300 tickets for Warriors v Leicester Tigers were
sold through Acorns, this activity raised over £5000 for Acorns.
