Development of rugby from the grassroots level up is
important to the future of the game. Worcester Warriors plays
an important role in not only player development but also
assists in coach education.
Coach Education Evenings
During the season over
260
community coaches attended four
Coach Education evenings here at Sixways Stadium. These
evenings were led by Richard Hill, Phil Davies, Andrew Stanley
and Gary Meechan and covered skills such as: press defence,
advanced skills for forwards, thoughts on the breakdown and
the role of the first receiver.
Out and About
Our Community Rugby Coaches spend a great deal of
time out in the community, visiting rugby clubs and helping
them develop. During the season our Coaches visited
28
local rugby clubs. Visits and support takes place mainly on
Sundays when mini and junior rugby is played across
the County.
Rugby Camps
Worcester Warriors delivered
rugby camps
, both residential
and non-residential to
567
aspiring young rugby players aged
6 – 17 and a Mini Maulers camp which offers fun and games
for children aged 2 to 4.
Touch Rugby
As soon as the rugby season ends its Touch Rugby time.
Now in its 6th year, The Warriors Touch League is better than
ever. With three leagues, it caters for people of all ages and
ability. It is an ideal opportunity to meet new people, try
something new and interact with other players.
Our Players
Our first XV players are committed to giving up some of their
valuable time to support local causes. During the season they
collectively gave
550
hours and attended
275
events. That is
14 weeks of time
(based on an average 37hr week)
Matchday Experience and Rugby Experience
During the season we hosted
3,719
children from local rugby
clubs and schools on matchdays. The children enjoyed a tour
of the stadium, took on mascot duties and had some rugby
coaching. The children then take their seats in the stadium
and watch the Warriors in action.
Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme
Aviva, in partnership with Premiership Rugby fund this
programme. It underlines their commitment to grow
participation in the sport, helps develop and inspire the
next generation of rugby players, and hopefully unearths
England stars of the future. The Warriors Community Coaches
delivered this programme to
50
local schools and participation
numbers exceeded
3,000
last season alone.
Tackling Numbers
Supported by MBNA, Tackling Numbers is an interactive
numeracy programme for young children, developed and
delivered by Premiership Rugby in partnership with MBNA.
This five week programme aims to teach 8-9 year olds the
importance of number skills in everyday life. The rugby-
themed programme is delivered in schools by representatives
from all
12
Premiership Rugby clubs, through both classroom
sessions and practical number-based rugby games. This
innovative and engaging programme will make learning about
numbers fun, exciting and rewarding. It will inspire children to
both improve their numeracy skills and their physical health.
Worcester Warriors delivered is initiative across
20
local
schools enabling over
600
children to receive
5
classroom
sessions complimented by coaching sessions. The children
also had the opportunity to compete in a Tag Rugby Festival
and show case their new skills in front of our supporters as
half time activity during Premiership Rugby Matches.
