Mature Students Aston Society (MSA)
This is run
by
mature students for mature students, and provides a forum
for students from across disciplines to get together and offer social, study
and support activities for each other. The Society is co-ordinated by a
Student Committee, and all mature students are welcome to join.
Throughout the year, the MSA usually organise a variety of exciting (on and off
campus) events and activities to enhance your time at the university, these may
also include activities for families to get involved in.
A major benefit of joining the MSA is access to the
Mature Students’
Common Room
,
situated in the Students’ Union. This has a social area
furnished with comfy sofas,
and kitchen and IT facilities.
It provides a valuable space
where mature students
can meet, study or relax.

First year
I wanted to improve my future opportunities
so decided to go back to education. I started
an access course which was really useful in
helping me to prepare for university. I applied
to Aston University because it is centrally
located which is important to me as a
mature student. I was really excited when
I was accepted onto my degree but also a
little apprehensive so I attended the mature
students’ induction and this helped me to feel
more comfortable. The first few lectures were
a shock because I thought it would be more
like college but after a few weeks I settled in
and I was really supported
by my personal tutor and
academic support officer.
I am progressing really well
now and may even go on
to do a Master’s degree.”
